Bibliophiles of the internet, my name is Adriana and today I'm here to announce my Tome Topple TBR.
So for those of you who don't know, Tome Topple is a read-a-thon that was created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes.
I will link her announcement video down below,
but basically it is a read-a-thon that takes place for two weeks at the beginning of June,
and the idea is to read big books—
—books over 500 pages.
Yeah. It's gonna be pretty gnarly.
The read-a-thon will take place from June 5th to June 19th, which as I said is two weeks long,
which I think is kind of nice, because it's usually the norm for other read-a-thons
to be one week long, if not shorter.
So this way, even if you are a really slow reader,
or you just want to dedicate your time to reading one ginormous book,
you have a great chance to make some really good progress.
Also, alongside participating in this read-a-thon, I am one of the people helping to co-host this event!
I have six incredible co-hosts, who I will link down below.
Of course there is Sam from Thoughts on Tomes, Kristin from WhatsKappening, Sarah Jane from TheBookLife,
Kat from cuddlebuggery, Sheema from dreamthiefs, and Sandra from thedarkestpartsofsnow.
Again, all of their links will be down below.
And I think what's really cool is not only do all of us come from different parts of the world, and different time zones,
but we all use different bookish mediums on the internet,
whether it's BookTube, book blogging, Booklr, Bookstagram.
I like how all the different platforms are represented,
and I think Sam did a fantastic job of bringing us all together.
So that was all of the logistic information. It will also be in the description down below,
so be sure to look at that. But now I will walk you through the challenges
and also what I plan to read during this event.
The challenges are as follows:
Challenge #1: Read more than one tome.
Challenge #2: Take a graphic novel break.
I kind of love that Sam included this challenge, because I will definitely be taking advantage of it so hard.
Challenge #3: Read a tome that's part of a series.
Challenge #4: Read more than 500 pages in one week.
And Challenge #5: Read an adult novel.
Those are all the challenges. Of course, you are completely welcome to just ignore them altogether,
do your own thing, do whatever you want.
This is a really low-key, low-pressure, chill event.
The challenges are just meant to be fun,
to give you some ideas, to give you some direction if you would like it,
and I'm sure you can also double up on challenges as well.
I would like my main focus for this event to be "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt.
Don't let the size of this fool you. It has really tiny font, it has those bible-thin pages,
and it's nearly 600 pages long.
So yeah. I think this would definitely be a good time to get a start on this.
I don't know much about this book going into it, besides the fact that there's, like, a classics course involved,
or at least a classics professor,
and this group of tight-knit friends.
But it's also like literary fiction meets thriller,
because someone dies.
So that's really all I need to know.
Plus, this is an adult novel. So that would fulfill a challenge very nicely.
Then I have a book I've been saving especially for this event,
and that is "The Unexpected Everything" by Morgan Matson.
All I know about this story is I think the main character's father is some kind of politician,
and he might have gone through some kind of scandal recently.
So the main character's summer is completely shaken up, all of her plans have changed,
she's walkin' dogs now, apparently.
I just expect great things.
Which is ironic, because it's called "The Unexpected Everything," so I guess I'm not supposed to expect things.
Aha. Jokes.
Then, if I can read both of these books, I will have read more than one tome,
and that's another challenge down.
Then if I have time, if I am able, I would at least like to start "A Gathering of Shadows" by V.E. Schwab.
This would be like killing two birds with one stone, because this is a chunker of a sequel,
and it would definitely fulfill the challenge of reading a tome in a series.
But I was also planning to buddy read this book with Ivan from Sonahaazrah sometime in June anyways,
so hopefully we can work that out.
I've literally had this book ever since it released, and it would be really nice to actually start reading it.
And I know I'm going all out of order for the challenges, but for my graphic novel break I am more than covered.
I have "Lumberjanes" vol. 3, "I Hate Fairyland" vol. 1, "Chew" vol. 11.
I have a ton of manga I could choose from as well.
So the options are endless.
So those are the main books I plan to read during Tome Topple.
Of course, I'm flexible. I could always switch out these books for other ones if I really wanted to,
BUT I feel pretty set in my choices.
In the comments down below, please tell me if you also plan to take part in Tome Topple,
and if so I would love to know what's on your TBR as well.
Or if you're thinking about joining in and you don't quite know which books you would like to read,
I would be more than happy to give you some suggestions.
But that is everything I had for this announcement/TBR video today. Thank you so much for watching.
I really hope that you enjoyed it, and I will catch YOU on the flip-side of the page.
Bye!
