Do bodybuilders measure flexed?
It really depends on what they are trying to measure?
Their muscles.
For example, the upper arms are measured when the elbow is flexed. The waist and chest should
be measured without being flexed.
What else is measured flexed?
Not much, unless you are showing off.
So what is there to measure relaxed?
The thighs, hips, calves and neck should be measured relaxed.
I see a lot of guys measuring these flexed.
You can measure these muscles flexed. Though to get an honest measurement, it should be
a flexed measurement not taken right after a workout.
Because the blood flow through the worked muscles makes them larger.
That’s why guys like to flex their muscles to impress girls right after lifting a lot
of weights.
That’s when I see most guys measure their chests.
You should measure the chest after a gentle exhalation and gentle inhalation and average
the two. The same is true for the abs.
Why do guys prefer to measure muscles that are flexed?
Because flexed muscles are bigger.
This sounds like someone trying to gain weight taking a measurement after eating at a buffet,
instead of the default measurement of standing on the scale each morning.
That’s not a bad analogy. It might also be akin to body builders using diuretics a
day or two before weigh in to enter a contest to enter a lower weight competition category,
before drinking two gallons of water to rehydrate.
In short, it is cheating.
If a group of guys all agree to measure their calves flexed and see who has the biggest,
they can do that. But the standard is not flexed unless it is the bicep.
Then guys trying to mimic Popeye the sailor is normal, when it comes to body building
competitions.
And like Popeye, the whole competition can get ridiculous.
