A role as an RD is definitely...
Um...
I don't know, I play so many different roles, but I think
One that I see that I play most here is definitely that motivator for my student staff.
Um.. I think there's a lot of stuff that they do on the front lines
in the halls, in the buildings, on the floors, in the community
and what I'm here to do is
to be that motivation for them to go out there and seek those relationships; seek those opportunities out
Um.. I think that there's you know, there's judicial stuff
There's emails it means we need to be at
to help, you know, the department move forward
and help facilitate that
and create discussion, but I think
really what I enjoy most is that I see my role is as to motivate those student staff
really work hard
build those connections with other working students... on their floors
in their communities to help
you know to make the place seem better
help students in their first year and help them connect
within the community and create those relationships
and to be successfull
As an RD at Boise State University
we're each responsible for
the operation of a residence hall or a set of residence halls.
As the resident director for Suites,
I oversee 3 buildings, around 300 students
I have a staff of 11 RA's
as well as 5 desk assistants
We oversee everything from
occupancy and room changes all the way through programming and student conduct
Counseling if students need it so
just the whole spectrum of
interactions with students, we get these opportunities and experiences.
On call is something we do for safety and security reasons
So 24/7, 365 an RD is on call
and they're kind of the secondary on call for the campus
and so what they'll do is kind of handle more of the bigger emergency stuff
facility concerns
drugs and alcohol things
and a lot of the student concerns
"RD on call this is Kyle"
"...yeah"
"ok"
I'm on call, so I have to report to Keiser for a fire alarm
to eliminate. Awesome.
