The Caribbean Coast of the Yucatan Peninsula attracts many thousands of tourists each year.
The sun-drenched beaches of the region include such resort cities as Cancun and the island
of Cozumel.
A forgotten jewel at the southern tip of the Yucatan is Tulum Mexico.
Located along the western shores of the Yucatan the city of Tulum offers visitors the best
of modern and ancient living.
The Mayan ruins in the area include several old temples and buildings that reveal the
lifestyle of the ancient Mayan culture. This entire region was home to the Mayan people
until the Spanish conquest of the sixteenth century. The native people of the area maintain
much of the Mayan culture and traditions. This contrasts
nicely with the modern buildings and resorts that have grown up around Tulum. Vacationers
come to the area to relax and enjoy the sandy beaches and underwater caves that provide
scuba and snorkeling experiences.
The village or Tulum Pueblo has seen an increase in building over the past several years. The
village now is home to many boutique hotels and larger properties that provide vacationers
with many choices of accommodations.
The large chain hotels have so far passed Tulum by and that means that the area still
has many smaller hotel properties that cater to the vacation traveler. Hotels such as the
Posada Luna Del Sur, located in downtown Tulum, provide modern rooms with air conditioning
and cable television while maintaining the individuality of smaller properties. This
hotel features a classic Mexican theme with modern features and large rooms. Located in
the central district it is a short drive from the beaches and the architectural ruins that
are the main attractions of Tulum Mexico.
The Rancho Tranquillo is one of the original cabana styled Tulum hotels.
The Rancho offers a variety of accommodation choices and a make it yourself breakfast area
for guests. This hostel type property invites guests to mix, mingle, and get to know the
locals and other travelers.
Visitors to Tulum are treated to a laid back Caribbean atmosphere and ancient cultural
cues that set this community apart from the larger resort areas of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Visiting Tulum provides a chance to explore and unwind in one of Mexico’s most desirable
areas.
