Hi my name is Shane;
I’m a project engineer here with MCI in the Coast Guard
in St-John Newfoundland.
I deal with the aids to navigation
it could be anything from a pipe stand up to a light house.
We also deal with communication towers.
So we’re at the tower here now,
basically we’re just going to look for any signs of corrosion,
check the concrete foundation make sure
that there is no obstructed cracks and
we’re going to check to make sure that all the lighting and protection is in place
all the signs are there.
If we find any issues we’ll contact our ringing crew
and they’ll come out and fix the problem.
I recently studied engineering at Memorial University
I had a work term here with the Coast Guard.
And then after I graduated I was able to be bridged in.
The Canadian Coast Guard
it’s more than a career; it’s an adventure!
