Hi, I'm Angie Wilkes from Jeffery and Wilkes and this is Part 1 of our 8
part guide to your ideal loft conversion. So today I'm going to talk to you about
the importance of good design and planning. Loft conversions can really
transform a home and get the extra space you need without moving house, but,
get the design wrong and it can feel like an expensive bolted on extra, losing
valuable space elsewhere in your home. So where should you begin? 1. Call in the
experts. You have a few options, architects, technicians or building
surveyors will prepare the proposed drawings or design and even help you
find a builder. Or you can use a specialist loft conversion company. Now
they can provide the full package including the design, the planning, the
project management and the build. Or call in the builders. Once you have four
drawings that are approved and planning permission approved then they can carry
out the build. Make sure they have good drawings to work from and your
builders are very experienced in loft conversions and also have a good
reputation in the area. Get quotes from a minimum of 3 experts. Make sure they
visit the site and take accurate measurements. When comparing quotes be sure
to do so on a like for like basis. For example if one quote specifies the
amount of electric points or the type of a roof and the other one doesn't then
be sure to contact the one that doesn't and find out exactly what they have
allowed for. It's really important and could bite you later if you do not do
this. Check out the article that comes with this blog video post. We have
provided a list of suggested questions to ask your experts in your
consultation to help you gather all the information you need to make the best
choices. Join us again for Part 2 of our 8 Part series of your ideal loft
conversion. In part two we explore what types of lofts are available.
