Hi I’m Rich Funke. When you talk about Baseball in New York State, you talk about one of the
most successful franchises in all of sports, The New York Yankees
or you think about those Amazing mets.
You should also remember that this All-American game was invented here in New York. Yes Baseball
is alive and well all over the State, drawing millions of fans to games throughout the summer
and that includes minor league baseball. From the Buffalo Bisons to the Brooklyn Cyclones,
there are ten New York teams in the International and New York Penn leagues alone. And in here
in my district Baseball Fans have been following the sport since 1877.

“What we are in is the business of fun.
We hope that people come here, have fun with their family and friends, leave with a smile
on their face, whether the RedWings win or lose.”
The Rochester Redwings play at Frontier Field..in fact Rochester has the oldest continuously
operating baseball franchise in North America below the major league level.
“We have a place here right in the heart of downtown Rochester that they can take a
lot of pride in and bring their family and friends in from out of town and it’s amazing
how many people we get from all over the country, all over the world that come here and are
just blown away at what a great facility this and how much fun they have and a lot of them
aren't even baseball fans.”
The Redwings work hard to make sure their fans have a memorable experience. That every
game, is like your first game in the stands. The Red Wings are community owned, so General
Manager Dan Mason, and Team President Naomi Silver work hard to be involved in the community
beyond the ballpark.
“So many people flock to Frontier every year, close to a nearly a half a million people
come here for either a RedWings baseball games or other baseball games or even other civic
events here so it’s really a staple of our community.”
With more professional baseball teams than any other state in the nation, teams here
know that they are the highlight of the summer months.
“Baseball is really important to the state of New York and helps bring people together
at a beautiful time of year up here.”

of baseball is only car-ride away in Cooperstown at the Baseball Hall of Fame. For more information
