We have some important news for you now if you are a medicaid provider or a medicaid
recipient starting on Monday North Carolina will be changing the way it does its medicaid
billing the system is designed to process and pay more that 12 billion dollars a year
in healthcare claims for the some 70,000 enrolled medicaid providers and the 1.5 million medicaid
recipients To help the transition and explain this to us about it is Dr. Aldona Wos the
secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and a Greensboro resident Good
Morning Good Morning Cindy and Good Morning Greensboro well Dr. Wos tell us about Thank
you very much for having me here today Certainly tell us about this new system because it replaces
the old system this is supposed to be a little bit faster a little bit better way to track
the payment but it's good for everybody all at once isn't it Yes it is what is important
to know is that this is a very very large system We will be processing over 80 million
claims a year and this is a system that has been 10 years in the making and aside from
the 10 years it's also been 35 year old IT system that we are replacing So we are ecstatic
that come July 1 we will be the first state in the United States to have a multi-payer
system and how this will benefit everyone is it will increase the efficiency and what
it will also help with fighting fraud and abuse but definitely it will make it easier
for the providers to file their claims to bill online they will get paid faster and
with far more accuracy And but they have to enroll first and that's what Now it is also
important I Yes they do have to enroll first and it is critical for the healthcare providers
and everyone please remind your doctors when your in the offices today and ask them if
they've enrolled The healthcare providers have to login online and sign up as well as
undergoing their online training in order to get paid so please make sure to all the
providers sign up Are there a number of them who have yet to sign up or is it mostly just
a few folks Oh yes no yes there is quite a large number I would say since January we
have been working with the provider community but as of yesterday we still have about 50%
of the providers in the state of North Carolina have not yet signed up so we are encouraging
them there is still time please sign up so that you can get paid You process 88 billion
plus claims a year this should streamline that right Yes yes it should and because this
will be a new system and the providers will have to get used to using anything new just
as all of us when we get our new phones or new remote controls the providers will have
to have a little bit of a learning curve on the system but once they do they will be ecstatic
with how quickly and accurately they get paid and how much actually control they have by
being able to see their claims on the screens and see where they are at what point and what
information is missing or what still needs to be done what has been paid so they will
actually enjoy the system much more but because so many have not signed up yet we are prepared
and we are prepared with a call center we have stood up with a 24/7 technical staff
to help we have extended our hours in reference to the folks that will be able to work with
the providers to guide them and to provide the correct information for them but there
is still time so please sign up as a provider to NCTracks Okay Dr. Wos we want to get that
information out if you are a Medicaid provider it's very simple Thank you all you have to
do is log on to www.nctracks.nc.gov and there's a support line that will put all this information
on our website for you Dr. Wos Thank
