Hi. Anthony, here. In this video, I'm just going to talk about how to
choose the right video producer. So let's get into it. Why is it
important to choose the right video producer? Clearly, video is an
enduring medium.
It's been around - well, for such a long time, and if you think about
even the old movies that we watch on TV, what you record today will
still be being watched in maybe six months, 12 months, even years from
now. So, you want to get it right. If you leave it up there, it will
be there for a long, long time.
Secondly, video is very portable. So with mobile, handheld devices
these days, people aren't reading internet sites anywhere near the way
that they used to. So, with video, it's very portable, and so more and
more importance is given to the video medium. So you want to look your
best with the best message you can, and more people are going to be
watching it.
Thirdly, look, it takes time to craft a good video, and production
isn't something that you should rush. Now, I would hate for any of my
clients to choose me on a whim, and I know that I've had projects
where someone expects me just to turn the camera on, and make
something good. It's very difficult to do that if you don't know what
the intention is for the video shoot. So you want to think about your
recruiting as much as you do the actual video shoot as well.
So, a couple more things to think about. If you just had a video
producer who had great camera skills but no selling skills and no
internet marketing skills, then you end up with a great video but not
a clean message and the wrong audience; or even a worse case would be
no audience.
So you can't just have someone who's just good with a camera. That
will not work. You also need to have selling skills. So, if you had
someone who had just selling skills, no camera skills, no internet
marketing skills, you might get a great message out there, but it's
for the wrong audience. It makes you look bad, so you need to have the
selling skills in combination with camera and internet marketing
skills.
Then, lastly, if you had someone who was just great at internet
marketing, they had no camera skills and they had no selling skills,
then great. You've got a great audience seeing you looking poor, and
they have no idea what you're talking about. So for me, the sweet spot
is the combination of three criteria - camera skills, selling skills,
and internet marketing.
So, to check, you want to make sure that the person who's going to
shoot your video has the camera skills appropriate for your medium and
your budget. If you want to have a cinema quality ad, then you need to
have a cinema quality camera man with a cinema quality camera and
equipment, and that needs to be appropriate.
If you have a big budget, like Coca-Cola or any of the big, major
corporates, then clearly you're going to have multiple cameras,
multiple sound people, and this will be a big production to a producer
- an advertisement like you see on television.
So, the next thing you want to do is think about the selling skills to
craft your video sales letter. If someone does have selling skills,
then they're able to connect with the prospects in your market, and
they're able to enter the conversation that's going on in their mind.
So it's important that these selling skills exist.
Also, internet marketing skills are really important so that you can
get your message in front of your audience. It's no good just having
something produced and it's viewed by people outside your market. You
really need to be clear on who you're speaking to and how to get
there. Video SEO comes into that as well. So, there are three really
important things to consider.
Lastly, how do you check these things? Well, you should have a look at
your videographers recent work of a similar type of shoot. If you want
a two to five minute video, then go and have a look at the two to five
minute videos that have been shot recently.
If you want to check their selling skills, the inside out for their
sales funnel, see how they do their own marketing, their own online
video sales letter, and just see. Do you like that? Or do you not like
that? There's nothing to stop you from unsubscribing at the back end
of signing up for one of these video sales letters.
Thirdly, have a look at their own YouTube, Vimeo, whatever channel
they're using. How are they going? Are they actually getting views,
and is it working for them? So, you can check all those things easily
without even getting in contact with the videographer.
