Alright, welcome back, just a couple of more things to do with this particular image.
We want to sharpen this file so we will press Shift+Option+Command+E on a Mac,
Shift+Alt+Ctrl+E on a PC, and we will name this layer Sharp.
We are going to navigate to our filter drop down menu other and choose Other, High Pass.
Now, here what we are looking to do is to bring up the radius till we see just enough
detail on the lips and the eyes and everything, but we don't want to see any
detail in the skin. Now ,I see a lot of detail here on the skin
but that's okay because I want strong detail on the lips.
I am going to mask that in. Click OK. Now, I am going to take this to
a blend mode of Soft Light. I am going to click the Add Layer Mask icon
and invert this layer mask. Press Command+I on a Mac, Ctrl+I on a PC and
then zoom in a little bit. With my Brush tool, I will paint with white
and I will paint in the sharpness where I want to.
We're going to be reaching the nose here. And we are going to look at my mask which
we have painted in different levels of opacity there just
to have nice sharpness across the image, alright. That looks great.
Zoom out a little bit. Final thing I want to do is I want to apply
final Curves adjustment, just for the fun of it, see how far we can
push this image. So I am going to brighten it way up.
I have got my blacks a little bit here, down a little bit of detail.
before and after, click OK, yes, we have swung the image very far.
But it's kind of like that very surreal idealistic in this case, very different image but it's
nice to have another way that this image could
go. Let's look at our overall, before and after.
Here is the before, here is the after, very interesting.
Let's click through these steps; basic retouching, burning and dodging, softening things, some
other retouching, removing the strap, neutralizing the color,
working on Curves, softening large parts of the image.
Then, we had a couple of different ways to add some interesting color and tone there
and in contrast, adding a little bit of color to the cheeks,
to the lips, to some Burning and dodging, sharpening.
Now, there is my burning layer. That one needs to go down here.
And there is my Burning and Dodging and then we did our sharpening and finally,
that final Curves adjustment once again just for the fun of it before and after.
Hey, that was a pretty fun and creative retouching project.
I hope that you enjoyed this one and learned something along the way.
Now, this one was really creative. This isn't very typical, yet it's kind of
fun to experiment in this regard. A lot of times what you have to do with portrait
retouching is expand your vision for what's possible.
So I recommend you try something like this, not that you are going to do it all the time
or maybe at all, but you might learn something along the way.
Alright, in our other projects, we are going to get to a little bit more realistic scenarios
with a little bit less creativity. So I hope to see you in those.
Catch you then.
