In addition to the day I graduated, which was wonderful, I think when the
most wonderful day was when we had our first regular-season home football game. And the
vision and something we've wanted for a long, long time, and it was just awesome to be there
and be part of that. My education was very critical to my successful career in banking.
I had a lot of professors in the college of business that encouraged nontraditional students
to go all the way for success. We didn't have women in accounting back in those days, so
we were true pioneers and Dr. Tom Turner and other professors really helped us, encouraged
us, helped us to find jobs. They were just awesome. I had a passion for student athletes
and the reason I had a passion was because they work so hard. They have to be so successful
on and off the field. Typically, almost a hundred percent of the time, their overall
GPA outperformed the GPA of a normal student. And they just really had a lot of integrity
and work ethic and a lot of them could not have afforded to come to college without a
scholarship. And I think we did a lot more forcus on why it's so important to support
scholarships for students and not just all students, but student athletes as well. We
have two sons, 25 and 33, that are married. And between the two of them they have five
grandchildren. Our daughter is 39, not married. We enjoy time on the water at Lake Norman.
We enjoy holiday times and we love to travel. And we travel as often as we can. I think
if I could add something it would be to encourage all of my fellow hall of fame winner, all
of my distinguish alum holders, and all of our alums and friends of the university to
stay involved and be involved and find ways to keep that happening because that's what's
got us to where we are and that's what is going to keep us getting bigger and better.
