Hello everyone; as you might guess,
I am a big Black Jack fan.
The last anime con I went to (Aki Con 2011)
I cosplayed as
Dr. Black Jack
And one of the issues I ran into while making up
the cosplay,
was how to do the
face makeup.
One of the suggestions I found was where you make a mold,
to pour liquid latex in;
then you would have a latex scar
with the stitches and everything.
I didn't want to
do anything
that complex; I didn't want to use special effects makeup. So this is just using makeup
and some acrylic craft paint. You may notice that I'm doing the brown skin version,
instead of the blue skin version.
Nobody's skin is blue, so I just do the brown.
Now, you could use face paint,
but this is actual, regular face makeup.
The supplies I am using are brushes and sponges
You can use whatever you'd normally use for makeup.
I have a couple of different foundations.
I've got some really white foundation, I think this was the lightest I could find.
And this is for helping do
the flaky-skin effect
on the edge of the scar.
also a "normal" skintone
for the lighter side of the skin.
For the dark skin, I've got a very dark foundation.
I think it was the darkest I could find.
It's not very dark, but it works
if you can also get get a really
dark brown powder (bronzer).
So these are for the brown part of the skin.
You also want lighter powder
for the lighter part of the skin.
Optional:
I didn't do it this time, but I've done it before,
is to put a little
bit of black
eye makeup on,
to accentuate the edges of the eyebrows.
If you want thick, striking eyebrows.
That's it for
the face makeup.
To do the scar, I'm using two types of acrylic craft paint. This probably sticks to your face
a little better than face paint would. FP tends to peel off easily; this stuff does too,
but it should last on your face a little longer.
This is $1-2 per bottle.
I'm using black, and brown.
The brown is a rusty reddish-brown.
So it's kind of a
scabby color.
There are other colors you could use; I've thought of using purple.
And there's different ways to vary the scar; you can adjust the spacing between the stitches,
and the stitch size; there's different ways to vary it as you like.
So watch,
and see if it's something you want to do.
For easy access, put paint in palette
or on a corner of your hand.
Use a small flat brush,
get it a little wet,
and shape the end into a point.
Paint a line down the middle of your forehead, down nose, and to the left side of face. Make it a bit too wide.
You'll be making it narrower later.
Paint the stitches on. Make them thick and bold.
Decide how far apart you want them.
But keep the spacing even.
There's also a scar by the right side of the jaw.
With brown paint, go over the black lines. It's OK if it's not perfect or even.
Dip a slightly wide, flat brush in the foundation,
and paint it between stitches. Paint it on thickly. Dip brush in powder, and "paint" it onto foundation, "pushing" foundation toward scar line. Then add more powder to blend other edge of foundation into skin.
Repeat for the scar on the jaw.
Time for the brown part of the face.
Use a lot of foundation. Not caked on, but a thick layer.
Rub well into skin.
Make sure it's applied well around the eyes.
Smooth out surface with sponge.
Don't put foundation all the way to the edge of the scar.
Just get it close.
Use a stiff, thick brush to apply bronzer.
he
Press and rub the powder on.
Work powder in well; it's OK if it's not perfectly even. Smooth out with a softer brush after.
To make it darker and more even, add a second layer
with more foundation. Apply gently,
so the powder already on doesn't get smeared around.
Go over lightly with a sponge.
Use a large, soft brush
to gently apply more bronzer.
Be very gentle, so powder applies evenly.
I'm only using a light amount of makeup on lighter side of face.
I don't want the makeup to be obvious.
What I did for the hair:
I mostly use my natural hair.
The white is hair extensions made with extra hair cut from a long white wig,
and wig clips.
Here's with a second hair extension
I could use some hairspray
to help the hair stick up a little more.
My hair was a little longer in back for the con.
so it could curl up a little.
But it's shorter now.
