Everybody's different.
When we get an enquiry from someone through Airbnb,
some people immediately divulge a lot of information and tell us about themselves
and why they want to stay with us and some people just say:
"Hey, is the place available?"
Sometimes the request comes as:
"We are ready to book" and I'm not comfortable with that.
I always send them back and email saying: "Hey, so how long are you going to be here?
Where else are you going?" Just so that I can get a sense of them.
Communication is key.
Answer everybody that emails you and don't be afraid to ask them questions.
They are certainly asking you questions about your space and what it is and all that kind of stuff.
You can ask them any question you want,
they are going to come into your house and you have a right to ask them questions.
We definitely like to find out the nature of their visit.
Is it for vacation? or is it for work?
It kind of helps us as well to see what they are expecting out of our place.
We are protecting ourselves.
Look at the reviews of the host, because that's the real truth.
There is that level of accountability. The hosts can't manipulate what the guests say.
When we are accepting a booking,
we always encourage our guests to say a little bit about who they are.
We want to feel comfortable renting to people that we don't know
and I think Airbnb has been great in terms of
connecting us with people that we do feel comfortable with.
