"I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and the great thing about it is that we have
excellent staff here teaching us, so it's a very practically based course and when we're
in all our practicals we're getting hands-on knowledge on how to do the techniques for
our future career. In my research leading up to my choosing UQ, I attended the TSXPO
down here in Brisbane. I went to all the different universities, and asked them all questions.
Also, because I was worried about my OP and getting in, I then asked about the different
upgrading programs that were available for me to get into the Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
Coming from a small country town up in Central Queensland, I moved into St Leo's College
back in 2008 and stayed there for 3 years. It was an amazing experience; coming to Brisbane
I didn't really have or know many people and so it was awesome to have an immediate support
network there available for me to make some great friends I'll have for the rest of my
life. While I've been at UQ I've participated in a range of the social sporting activities:
touch football Monday nights, and then water polo on a Sunday night. I've also been part
of the Australian Physiotherapy Students Association, and with that you get access to all the fully
qualified physiotherapists at the moment. Basically, that can set us up with great career
placements for the future. My favourite thing about UQ is that I've been given the full
university experience, so coming from a small town and moving into college, I was able to
access the university's campus life very well. Hands on, all day everyday, we were involved
in all the activities that were going on. With my degree, it set me up extremely well
for my future career and I'm very grateful for it. My UQ Bachelor of Physiotherapy, at
the moment, they're preparing us very well, for the first three years we're here getting
hands on knowledge from all our lecturers and tutors and then our fourth year we have
an extensive clinical placement, so that once we graduate, we're very knowledgeable about
what techniques to use, and also when to use them. My advice for future students coming
to UQ is to get involved in as much as they can. Here at UQ, we have a great range of
activities on offer for you outside of your studies, and so if you get involved in as
much as you can, then it's going to be some of the best years of your life and an absolutely
amazing experience."
