Oh I love economics.
When I started teaching, I really wanted
to share that enthusiasm for economics with my students
and we need a citizenry thats educated
in economic and financial literacy.
"On your desks, there are paper bags. Today we're going to do a trading activity."
She's an extraordinary woman with an extraordinary vision
particularly for young women. Kathleen inspires them
to get interested and she makes it interesting.
"Now we're gonna go through and see what your valuation is after the trade."
I think about the Ferris Bueller clip
of when he was teaching economics,
and his kids were drooling, and they were just so out of it
I never want my class to be like that. You have to be up,
you just can't drone on, you have to get engaged, you have to walk up and down the aisles,
you have to interact with the students and know their strengths and weaknesses.
One of my favorite things about Mrs. Brennan is how knowledgeable she is about what she's teaching.
"That means the opportunity cost of one cake,
he gives up three pizzas to do it." Recently, she did this PowerPoint and she
used David Ricardo, the father of modern economics,
and Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy. She did that in a PowerPoint
explaining comparative advantage. It just like really fun but then I understood
the lesson after it so I thought that was really creative.
I think that if I was to tote up
the students that pursue an economics career,
I think it's significant and that that makes me feel good because I
have little economists running around.
It's really very rewarding;
I wouldn't be doing anything else.
