Hi, I'm Floyd. Here's a fun activity to get your kids outdoors and keep the birds off
your veggie patch, and this is what you need. Two bits of timber, clothes for the scarecrow,
old pantyhose, pillowcase for the head, markers for the face, newspaper for padding, and twine.
And now we need some tools. A stepladder, scissors, a mallet, drill and timber screws,
and don't forget your safety goggles.
Now let's get started. First of all, stuff the pantyhose with the crushed newspaper to
make the legs. Cut the other pantyhose in half and stuff them with crushed newspaper
to make the arms. Pop the stuffed legs into the pants, cut a hole in the base of the pants
so we can put the timber through.
Next up, pull the pants onto the timber and nail into place. After that, push the shorter
piece of timber through the arms and secure the cuffs. Drill or hammer the arm and leg
section together to form the completed body. Now use some of the scrunched-up newspaper
to pad out the body. To make the head, we're going to stuff the pillowcase and tie it off.
Now the scarecrow needs a face. You can use markers or paint, buttons to make the eyes
and nose. Have some fun.
Now pop the head on the shoulders and fix into place. Set the scarecrow up, check that
it's all secure, and check there's enough padding. Once you're done, he's ready to hammer
into the ground. Give him a name and he's ready to protect your veggie patch.
