Good day or good evening depending on where you are in the world
It's the afternoon here and I can hear
little birds singing outside, it's very pleasant
The question of the day today is
So, little disclaimer, if you're about to take a ship
don't watch this video
because I might scare you!
So my worst travel experience
was in December 2013
I took the ship to go to France, to go and celebrate Christmas with my family
and it was very very very windy that day
well that night, because it was a night time crossing
and honestly, they should have cancelled the crossing
because it was a real nightmare
In fact, every crossing was cancelled for the next few days
because it was really terrible
So anyway, it was windy, nothing...
nothing alarming at first glance
So, I got on the ship as usual
I did have a cabin but, before going in my cabin I sat down in one of the seats to...
to go on the internet on my computer, as I pretty much always do
and at around 1am, I thought, maybe it's time to go to sleep
and then, I put my stuff away and
I got up
and I felt the ship move like..
When the sea is calm
you can't even feel the ship moving, you can walk and it feels just like....
being in a house somewhere or in a shopping centre
You don't feel the ship moving when the sea is calm
and then, I felt it move with every step I took
But well, it was nothing...
I had seen way way way worse, it was nothing to worry about
I went to my cabin
I got into bed... and (got comfy)
Except that it started to get worse and worse
basically there was a storm raging at sea
and, let's just say that... I have never been so scared in my life
The ship starting moving up and down like this
from left to right, but everything at the same time
so it was moving like this, except... well
I could see the wall
The wall is normally like this right?
and then it was going like that
Honestly, and it was staying a very very long time like it, horizontally
Horizontally?!
(I mean) diagonally
and, since it was staying like this for so long, you so had the impression that
it was going to fall
It was going to... How do we say that again?
Basically that it was going to capsize
So, I got off my bed and sat on the floor
and I remember that...
I'm never seasick, I take the ship every year
several times a year
roughly twice a year
I love travelling by ship
I love Brittany Ferries, despite this experience.
It hasn't changed my opinion of the company
But that day, I spent the night
on the floor, and I was very very sick even though I'm usually never seasick
Honestly, I'm not a regular churchgoer
When I say "pratiquante", I'm talking about religion
but then, I was so so so scared for my life
that I started to pray and..
there were things falling on the floor
People walking in the corridors were falling against the walls and everything
It was horrible
I saw every minute go by
and basically I really, really thought we would never make it to the port
It was, it was...
There's no words. As I'm telling you the story I feel like
I'm not managing to express just how horrible it actually was
But yeah, I remember that, when I was sitting in my cabin..
well..
I even remember spending a lot of time
thinking about
how I could get out of the ship
if it were to capsize
Honestly, to get into that mindset
it really needs to be
more or less catastrophic
As I said, I love travelling by ship..
I had had other crossings before where..
the ship moved from left to right like this... and...
Where even in the shops...
I remember once, plates were falling on the floor and...
breaking and everything...and
We were laughing like, it was way funnier than it was scary
But then... when you really feel like a cork on water
because you're moving like so...
and that the ship leans to one side for a very long time
and that... na na na...
and in the morn'... my dog is barking again
And in the morning when..
when we all got out of our cabins and gathered
on, it's often on deck number 6
to, to basically to get out of the ship
you could tell that no one, no one had slept
Everyone was like this...
So yeah, that was my worst travel experience
So, that said, your turn!
