'Twas the day before finals, when all through the halls,
Every student was studying . . . or staring at walls.
"Exams are so hard!" each one of them cries As they read through class notes and munch
Centrum fries.
"If only we knew 'twas worth it, preparing all this time.
On a SoCal winter day, it seems such a crime."
So they put down their books and went to embark On a walk down Regals Way, and through Kingsmen
Park.
They arrived at a spot where the ground was now bare,
Recalling the great times that they all had shared there.
They shed a few tears for their beloved old SUB,
But thought of Ullman Commons, and delicious, fresh grub.
"'Tis good indeed, for our great campus to grow;
There's so much possibility here, more than we know."
They turned to face Gumby—Enormous Luther, I mean.
How much change, they thought, has he overseen?
To their inquiring minds the answer did come As day became night by quick-setting sun.
Even in twilight, Luther's gold did glimmer Showing deep wisdom within that bright shimmer:
All our grand journeys must start with a spark Which endures, and grows, and leaves a great
mark.
"Transform the world!" this knowledge did shout,
And students to halls returned, hearts without doubt.
Each knew confidently that they could achieve Their special purpose, discovered this eve.
These scholars’ eyes sparkled as they studied all night
With the flame of knowledge that we each keep alight.
So immense was their passion, even on Mount Clef it shone,
Outlining tall letters of painted white stone.
And so the next years passed, and the students, they grew
Into fine, proud graduates—a most bittersweet adieu.
Some have voyaged far, and others stayed near, But in Cal Lutheran’s heart, they will always
be here.
