Herbs are easy to grow in containers and as long as you have good drainage
and lots of sunshine, you'll have success.
My first experiment with herbs was
lots of them I bought together in a small container
and they grew fairly well
you just need to keep them
watered if you have lots of them in a container.
This one doesn't need as much water because
it's just about the right number for this time of year.
Maurice, would you like to show us how to pot up herbs?
Yes. Herbs can be grown in any size of container. It can be a small container
like this one
or a medium-sized like this or even a bigger container like this. You can use it
for growing herbs. So
first of all
if you want to grow herbs in a container make sure the container has good drainage
then fill the container with the potting mix.
But don't fill the potting mix up to the brim, just fill it
to a level where by you can
water it
and make sure the water drips out the bottom of the container
then you can plant the herb
and plant it at the same depth
as it is in the original
flat or container where it was started. From this soil
then put it in a spot.
If it is a sun-loving one, put it in a spot where it will get full sunlight.
If it is a type that requires partial shade,
put it in a spot where it will get partial shade.
Maurice, I noticed that you had basil here and basil is easy to grow, but
be sure not to leave a saucer on the bottom. The first year I did, I had an attached
saucer and it didn't drain well so these leaves turned black.
You want to be sure that excellent drainage and you'll have great success with basil.
In fact all these herbs are fairly easy to grow. They give off a delightfully pungent smell
and I just kind of revel
in the touch of herbs and then the
smell whether I use them for cooking or not. They're just great on my patio as I go out
my back door.
So you can also plant
herbs by planting seeds, not only from transplants. You can plant seeds,
but the seeds will take a little bit longer to mature and be harvested.
