It's a wonderful summer morning and Virtu-Al is getting ready to record game footage for his next episode.
Hello guys and girls, aaaand...
Unluckily the new episode is still in the works because of...Technical problems!
But to make up for it I decided to take this chance
and organize for you my personal Top 11 of the games shown at E3 2016!
Aahh...E3...
Known in its complete form as Electronic Entertainment Expo
it has been, since years ago, a point of interest for all videogame fans
who, once per year, around June,
see big and small videogame companies gather in Los Angeles
to show off all of their new projects, resulting in happy moments...
And other more embarassing moments...
But for all this excitement there's also a negative side;
Every year I hear people argue, scream,
pull each other's moms in low dignity affairs, merely to decide who might've won E3.
Microsoft won this year, no Nintendo won this year, don't be stupid, the winner is Sony...
But guys...No one of them won...
-Hey, this *** is saying Sony didn't win!
-Come on, we know Microsoft blew things up this year!
-Yeah, they blew your mom off the bed! Did you see Zelda ?! -Go back to play Minecraft!!
-Zelda, that single game they shown this E3 ?! -Stop being idiots, come on, Microsoft won this one! -*** you guys, you don't know *** about games!
KOJIMAAAAHHH!!! KOJIMAAAAHHH!! KOJIMAAAAHHH!!
-PC MASTER RACE!!!
We won!!
Us, the ones who play, the ones who are gamers! Gamers...are...the winners!
Because it's our passion going forward...
It's our passion that is supported by an infinite number of creative minds working for us!
Who want to give us fun, having fun!
So...Maybe...Let's try to argue a little less and enjoy those moments together!
But...Let's start this Top 11!
Ok guys, the rules of this Top are very simple:
I'll take in consideration every single game shown except for the ones lacking an actual gameplay trailer
like Crash Bandicoot Remastered and Quake Champions.
I'm pretty sure the latter ones and Kojima's title, for example, will be fantastic!
But it's my personal philosophy to wait and see the actual game in action.
I also remind you that this Top isn't meant to show objectively what games were the best ones,
but merely the ones that made this chubby man's heart beat the most.
Ready ? Go!
Number 11!
Recore!
Developed by former members of Retro Studios, known for working on the legendary Metroid Prime series
and Inafune, former head of the Megaman series,
This mix of action and adventure with RPG elements, made quite a few heads turn last year
thanks to a post-apocalyctic setting,
made more light-hearted by the presence of the cute robots that will accompany the main character,
giving her special abilities in the game.
I still have to understand how the combat will work,
but the platforming sections already seem really fun and engaging!
My only complaint isn't about the game itself, rather about its presentation this year...
What's with this trend of making game trailers with music that isn't related to the game itself ?!
Don't get me wrong, it's a very cool tune, but...
It detaches from the game, it doesn't make you dive in the atmosphere of the title...
It gives an impression of..of being annoyingly pompous...
I don't know if you get the same feeling, but...for me it's something similar to this!
Number 10!
Titanfall 2!
I'll admit that when the first Titanfall was announced I wasn't too impressed,
especially for the lack of a single player campaign
and the mecha design which, personally, I found very bland.
Titanfall 2 managed to completely turn my opinion around!
The robots, or Titans, are a lot more different among themselves,
the gameplay has been improved and a story mode has been finally added,
which even gives the player the best companion one can wish for in this kind of title!
A sentient Titan!
They are all elements that give a game its soul.
I'm not saying you can't creat an emotionally engaging title which bases itself only on multiplayer...
Just look at games like Splatoon, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch,
but the first Titanfall lacked that element that could've made the player grow attached to the game's world,
that would've given weight to his actions!
After seeing the sequel, I'm sure that, this time, this world will launch me toward huge emotions!
Number 9!
Severed!
From the authors of the successful bidimensional title Guacamelee
comes this first-person fantasy adventure that makes an extensive use of touch controls.
Playing as a girl lost in a creepy world,
we'll have to face creatures which, despite the very simple art style,
seem to come from our worst nightmares!
The battles seem really intense and I know some might be turned off by touch controls,
but I assure you that there are games that, even with such simple controls, are experiences worth playing.
And Severed seems to fit in this category
Thanks to a simple, but frenetic gameplay and a high-level art direction!
Number 8!
Spiderman!
How long has it been since we saw a Spiderman title worth of its name ?
Yes, there have been a couple of interesting experiments in the last years,
but nothing that could be compared, for example, to the Arkham series for Batman, in terms of quality.
This title promises big things, especially for the team that's working on it: Insomniac Games
Who's Insomniac Games ?
It's the developement studio that created the great Ratchet & Clank saga, you remember, right ?
Yes! That one voice acted by that famous youtuber! ((HAHA, ITALIAN JOKE!))
I still don't know if the game will live up to the expectations, but with those references...
I feel like being more than optimistic!
Number 7!
We Happy Few!
I had already heard about this indie title before E3,
but seeing it in action during the Microsoft conference convinced me of its potential!
We Happy Few is set in a dystopic and retro-futuristic theme,
in which the population is kept under control through the use of "Joy Pills."
The main character, a censor tasked with erasing any negative news from historical archives,
finds a news article about his brother, involved in a tragedy.
Shocked by his discovery, the man stops taking pills and soon finds out about the horrible truth behind this seemingly perfect and happy world.
The thing that excites me the most is that this seems a story I'd read in a comic, or a book,
with social and politic involvements that seem to take inspiration
from the sci-fi masterpiece of Huxley, Brave New World.
It gives me the same sense of creepyness and morbid curiousity that Bioshock gave me years ago.
It's superflous to say that I'm waiting for this game with trepidation!
Number 6!
Shantae Half Genie Hero!
The half genie of Wayforward returns in what looks like a playable cartoon.
The gameplay, from what has been shown, has a classic feeling, but a modern execution, as is tradition of the team.
I especially love the care put in the animation of every single character.
Everyone, from the adorable Shantae to the lowest enemy, is full of personality lingering from every single frame.
If you are fans of bidimensional platforms you can't not love this series
and this last title seems to be a wonderful addition to the saga!
Number 5!
Horizon Zero Dawn!
Or how I call it, the "Croods" girl versus the Zoids!
Sony and Guerilla Games introduce a post-apocalyctic future,
in which the humans went back to prehistoric levels
while the world has been conquered by sentient machines that replaced the terrestrial fauna.
Between an art direction that makes those mechanical creatures a joy for the eyes
and a gameplay that offers a huge variety of weapons and traps to make battles as dynamic as possible
Horizon Zero Down is, for good reasons, one of the most awaited games of Sony fans and yours truly!
Number 4!
Nier: Automata!
A new title developed by Platinum Games in collaboration with Square-Enix!
If you already saw my episode on Bayonetta, or if you're already a Platinum Games fan
I don't think I should introduce the reasons of why I'm awaiting this game:
action, spectacle, a frenetic gameplay and awesomely designed bosses
make this game awesome to look at!
Regarding the plot of the game, things are a bit more complicated!
Everything starts from Drakengard, cult RPG series for Playstation 2,
boasting three titles, each of which have at least five...different...endings!
Except for the third, which has 4 endings for some reason!
And I wouldn't be able to tell you which of the many endings are canon!
Then we have Nier, first spin-off of the series,
that is set, more specificly, after the fifth ending of the first game!
And Nier: Automata instead, the game I just shown off, is set after Nier!
but more specificly after the fourth ending of Nier!
But it's also linked to Drakengard 3 through some characters I don't know
and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if the game was also linked to Drakengard 2!
Great Scott!
Number 3!!!
Pokemon Sun & Moon!
The new adventure in the Pokemon world is set in a tropical region full of new creatures to catch and care for.
I've been a great Pokemon fan since I was a kid
and I could say that this series has been responsible for making me a video game fan.
It had a significant impact on my life
and it's a saga that, each time, gives me a whimsical sense of adventure!
In occasion of E3, by the way, three new Pokemon have been announced!
many times I hear from former fans of the series that the authors ran out of ideas,
but I personally disagree...
for example, the Pokemon announced in this occasion are very cool!
We have Grubbin, an insect-type Pokemon inspired by the common grub,
followed by Pikipek, an adorable flying Pokemon that takes its looks from the red woodpecker.
And, finally, Yungoose, inspired by Donald Trump!
Pokemon Sun & Moon will have their debut on 3DS at the end of the year
and thanks to the new setting, the renewed and improved graphical style,
new modes and an array of new, fantastic creatures to catch,
I'm sure fans of the series will have something to be happy about!
Number 2!!!
Yooka-Laylee!
Filling a void that in recent years has been sated only by Super Mario titles,
the Playtonic Games guys, formed by former veterans of the legendary Rare team,
come back with a flash to present a new 3D platform!
Colored! Huge! Various!
And filled with that humour and personality that always made Rare productions stand out.
It also seems that the Wii U version will be handled by the main team of Playtonic,
the old guard that, years ago, gifted us gems like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64!
I couldn't ask for more!
And the first place of my Top 11 games shown at E3 2016 iiiis...
It's probable that some of you, if not most, already understood where I was going...
But put yourself in my shoes...I love the fable fantasy genre!
and The Legend of Zelda is among the series that better represent this genre in videogames.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is, for me, a dream becoming true.
The Zelda series go back to that sense of freedom and adventure that was in the first title for NES.
No explaination. No tutorial. Only one huge fallen kingdom to explore,
to admire, to discover with your own legs and your own eyes.
It's one of those games that you wait the entire day to play, while you're at school or at work,
a little fleeting thought, always hidden behind the corner of your thoughts,
that, at the end of the day, lets you dive in a world of fantasy, of adventure, of whimsicalness...
A world in which you'll be able to fight a mechanical spider with magical arrows, riding your horse,
or simply run across the huge, green fields,
or explore the ruins of a temple to discover the truth behind the falling of an once glorious kingdom...
All of this...in complete freedom.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the world that made me dream the most at this E3.
And you know what's the best thing ? That this was only MY list of worlds.
I'm pretty sure that some, or many of you won't completely agree with this top.
And, to be honest ? That's good!
Because E3 isn't a competition, or at least, it shouldn't be!
It doesn't matter who won among Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft,
what matters is discuss, share, enrich each other, PLAY!
Because, at least for me, that's how you live a passion:
sharing it with whoever can understand it...
And having fun.
If you think I missed some titles...Propose them to me!
Or even make your own top lists and post them under this video, let me hear YOUR opinion!
That said, it's time to say bye...I'm Virtu-Al and I'll see you soon in the next world...Bye!
Ok...Let's try again!
I almost, I almost...Killed Shiryu there!
Sorry! It isn't as easy as it looks!
I couldn't turn it around!
That's alright!
Let's go...With another one!
