Hello Head Steamers. Jon Chase here. Now we've got a cool demo to steam up your heads, and
to steam up your glasses. Now, we wouldn't recommended you try this at home, because
we've taken proper safety precautions today.
In involves this empty bottle. Well actually, we know it's not empty, it's actually got
air inside it. Now you know air, 78% Nitrogen, about 21% oxygen, and 1% other stuff.
Now being a gas, the air particles actually move around, and they bounce into each other
and the bottle. And they create an outward pressure. Now this pressure is the same outside
as it is inside the bottle, because we've got no cap on it. We say that is in equilibrium.
But we've actually got a really cool demo to show you what happens if we create an imbalance
in that equilibrium.
So first up, proper precautions. Second, take the bottle. We're gonna stick some cool water
into the bottle.....gonna put in about an inch high.
About that much. And we're gonna stick it in the microwave. ....There...Just like that!
Now obviously we've put it in the microwave, so we know, the water's gonna get hot. But
wait till you see what happens next.
That was amazing. Maybe you expected that, maybe you didn't. Now, why it happens is -- actually,
I'll let you guys tell me why it happens. So, we have some options, up here. Which do
you think it is?
