The mountain bike has been on-and-off since the 90s. It has a resurgence in 2005 and we've been going since then.
The Brandon Police Service Mountain Bike Unit is manned by 4 officers this year.
Two from Community Policing and two from the School Resource Officer section.
And we'll be out on the bike paths and parks all summer long.
We'll be hitting up a lot of the special events and we will be taking in the spray parks and basically going wherever there's a lot of foot traffic.
And a lot of people congregating.
We really don't have any set hours. It's going to depend on what kind of events are going on the community.
And we try to arrange our schedules around that.
we can write Highway Traffic Act tickets, so if we pull up beside you on our bikes and we see you talking on your cellphone
we will write you a ticket, so please don't talk on your cellphone while you are driving
because it's dangerous and we will catch you.
When we are on the mountain bikes we have all the same gear
around our duty belts that any officer would carry.
It does make it a little bit difficult when we're out riding, but we still have to carry all the same utilities.
so we have the same powers that all of the police officers have.
It's just that we're on the bikes so we have the freedom to go through back lanes
and take short cuts to get to certain calls and to get into certain areas that are more difficult to get to by cuiser car.
If you see us out there on the mountain bikes please feel free to stop us and have a chat.
If you have any questions we're available or if you just want to visit that's great too!
