Let's cover the basics about visa requirements, customs, and various other helpful documents
that you may need when you visit Athens.It's always best to consult your travel agent and/or
local Greek embassy or consulate before traveling.
If you require a visa to travel to Greece, we recommend you plan ahead. For more information
contact the nearest Greek Foreign Affairs Office near you.
After passing passport control at AIA you collect your luggage at your designated carousel
and proceed through customs.
According to European Regulations, all travelers entering or leaving the European Union with
more than €10.000, in cash, must declare the amount to Customs.
Customs controls at Greek points of entry distinguish between goods bought within the
EU and outside the EU.
When traveling to Athens from outside the EU you are allowed to bring in the following
--,provided --you travel with the items and do not intend to sell them. These are:
200 cigarettes, 100 cigarillos, 50 cigars, or 250g of tobacco
2 liters of table wine 1 liter of spirits or strong liqueurs with
22% alcohol volume or 2 liters of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs
60ml of perfume 250ml of tap water
If you plan to rent a car and/or drive in Greece, you should bring your government issued
drivers license as well as an International Drivers License. Please check our "Rental

If you're a university or college student, be sure you get an International Student ID
card from your school, which offers you great discounts at museums, archaeological sites,
travel, and more!
If you have a Press Pass, you'll be granted access into various sites and maybe even some
nightlife hot spots around town!
