I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout
all generations.
Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy
hands.
They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;
as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before
thee.
A portion of that reminded me of my dear Mother who, just two years ago yesterday, passed
on into glory. Oh what an awful time it was for her, as I'm sure you can relate, with
the difficulties of this life and what you endure. My Mom had it pretty rough. I was
watching how I read scripture to her back in March of 2010. I read Ezekiel to her and
I had no idea, at the time I was doing so, that in a year and a half my Mom would be
passed on. Praise God I was able to finish the book of Ezekiel with her. But you know
there are so many folk that have even more difficulties than my Mom and there are people
who lose loved ones before their time. I have a friend of mine from Bob Jones University,
a girl I used to date. I'm going to pass the video, that I'm making, on to her for her
to see. She won't be able to hear it, however, because she is deaf. She was always very intriguing
to me, a very bright young lady and a marvelous artist. It wasn't meant to be for the two
of us but she went on to marry a fellow who I knew well, there in the art department at
college, who since went on to be head over studio art at the University. But just this
last week, after suffering a year long battle with brain cancer, the Lord mercifully took
him home. This song is going to be tough as I think
of my Mom while I sing it too. I'd like to dedicate this to my friend there at college
and to her daughters and son that still remain. Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly
Friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake Be still, my soul
To guide the future, as He has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still
know Be still my soul
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.
Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.
I just learned today there are other verses to this song of which I was never aware.
Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart, And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears. Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.
Then one other.
Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise On earth, believing, to Thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways, So shall He view thee with a well pleased
eye. Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In
all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.
What a sacred promise that we have. God is with us at all times. He never leaves us nor
forsakes us. We may feel as though he does! But I guarantee you when you feel that way
it is because some PERSON has let you down. That person could have even been...
yourself. We fail God but God knoweth our frame that
we are dust. I love the verses in scripture where the disciples are with Jesus on the
mountain top! Jesus often took them to mountain tops! There was ELIJAH and MOSES that appeared
with Jesus. Can you imagine? As much as the Jews reveared Moses and Elijah. They talk
about Moses and Elijah a lot. But yet the promised Son of God was in the midst of those
two. Who cares about Elijah and Moses? Really. But they came to take Christ for granted a
bit. Then Peter, who would always blurt out things that he shouldn't said, "Oh, it is
good that we are here! Let's build three tabernacles! One for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah!"
And then a dark cloud came over them and a voice that said, "This is my beloved Son in
whom I am well pleased, HEAR YE HIM!" Man, when those guys heard the voice of God (as
we would also) they fell down on the ground in FEAR! But when they opened their eyes they
saw no man save JESUS ONLY. Then Jesus would always say something like "Peace." Then reach
forth and take them by the hand. Just like when Peter began to sink in the water, which
represent the troubles we have on this earth. We think we can get through it on our own!
We start to sink. Then Jesus reaches out and lifts us up.
