After acquiring music discovery service We Are Hunted last year, rumors suggested Twitter
would launch a music discovery application called — you guessed it — Twitter Music.
Well, Twitter Music may be launching as soon as today.
According to CNET, Twitter Music is a music discovery app. It suggests songs and artists
based on who a user follows on Twitter, and also tracks song and artist popularity. Users
will reportedly be able to listen to music clips via SoundCloud and watch music videos
via Vevo, all from within the app.
Reports are varied on when the music app will be launched, but one thing’s for certain:
it’s coming soon. AllThingsD reports it could be as early as Friday, while another
claims Twitter is pushing to launch in concert with the Coachella music festival.
Details on what platform the app is launching on are unclear, but it seems Twitter Music
will only be available on iOS for now. Sorry, Android users.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest spilled the beans about the new app Thursday in a tweet,
which prompted We Are Hunted to send its own tweet announcing it had been acquired by Twitter
— a poorly-kept secret considering CNET revealed that one last month.
Twitter isn’t making any official comments yet, but we’ll let you know if a little
birdie tells us anything.
