He may have been married for nearly six years but Prince William has never worn a wedding
ring.
The 34 year old royal, who married Kate Middleton in a lavish ceremony in 2011 at Westminster
Abbey, opted out of investing in a piece of jewelry when the pair tied the knot.
Despite his wife wearing an 18 carat gold wedding band, William decided to shun tradition
and just like his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, goes without a ring.
Avid royal watchers have noticed that William never wears bling but it turns out its
just not his style.
Speaking to Time magazine just before the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge,
a royal spokesperson said William had decided to go against tradition.
It is simply down to personal preference, the royal aide said.
"It was something the couple discussed but Prince William isn't one for jewelry."
William isnt alone in his choice to keep his hand free of any jewelry as his grandfather,
Prince Philip, who married Queen Elizabeth in 1947, also chooses to not wear a ring.
Considering mens wedding rings only came into fashion in the mid 20th century, it wouldnt
have been considered fashionable back when the duo wed.
Men apparently started wearing wedding rings back in the world wars as a way of remembering
their wives back at home.
Prince Williams father, Prince Charles, now wears a gold signet ring after marrying
Camilla in 2006.
Likewise, Prince Andrew also wore a gold band on his pinky finger before his divorce from
Sarah Ferguson was finalised.
