How to Get Out of your Head and Into Your Heart transcript
Hi. It's Darlene Downing. Welcome to Living A Life A Life You Love Every Day where I share
information with you to empower you to bring your big dreams to life and tools that allow
you to access as much joy as possible each step of the way.
Today I'll be guiding you through a four-step process that I personally use that will show
you how you can get out of your head and into your heart. So that you can access the clarity
and the wisdom that goes beyond your thinking mind and allows you to tap into that inner
knowing and your authentic truth.
Before I share this process with you, I'd like to ask you a question. Are you currently
at a major crossroad in your life and you just really aren't clear on what the next
step is for you to take? Maybe you've got a multitude of opportunities or decisions
in front of you and you're just not clear which one is the best one for you. Or perhaps
you're getting ready to embark on a brand new exciting adventure in your life, stepping
into something exciting and unknown, and you'd like to really amp up the juice behind that
and give power to what it is that you are creating.
Well if any of these sound like you, then I think you're going to find this four-step
process very valuable.
So what is the value of getting out of our heads and connecting to our hearts? Well from my point
of view, this is how I see it. I feel that we are just brilliant at using our brains.
We are constantly thinking about things. We are in our heads. We are analyzing this decision,
we're critiquing it, we're judging it, looking at it from this angle and that angle.
On and on, right? And we have really lost, a lot of us, the connection to the wisdom
of our hearts, which is that deeper intuitive knowing that goes beyond the logic of our
analytical mind. Our brains can only give us information based on what's happened
in the past and project that to the future. But when we connect and truly align with the
wisdom of our heart then it gives us access to something much greater than what we can
see where we are in the path right now.
The heart, when we tap into that deeper knowing, also gives us exponential power behind whatever
our intentions are that we have set. So if you think of a time when you chose to do something
and your heart wasn't really in it, can you remember, can you reflect back what that
felt like? And then when you think about a time when you were just on fire, you were
just whole-heartedly, no pun intended, involved in what it was you were choosing? And that
felt completely different, right? I know for myself that's been the case.
So when we access the power of the heart by listening to our heart, allowing our heart
to guide the way, and lead the way, then it really gives a lot of extra power or juice
to what it is that we're creating.
Now you might be saying "Yeah, but what if what my heart is saying makes absolutely
no sense? How do I know that I can trust what my heart is telling me?" And believe me,
I have been there and I know what that's like. I understand.
For me, it has been a process to really just continue to go into my heart. To listen. To
honor that wisdom. And then find that balance between my heart and my head. But my heart
trumps my head. At least that is where I am on my journey right now and I'm inviting
you to play with this with me.
So when I go to my heart and I've gotten a clear message and my brain is going Waaaa
but how is that going to happen? Blah blah blah blah blah. Right? I thank my dear sweet
brain for giving me its opinion and then I let it know that my heart is in charge and
that it has this one covered. And then I invite my brain to help my heart carry out whatever
my heart's intentions are so that they're both working together. It's definitely been
a practice for me to be sure. It's one though that has helped me tremendously on the journey
and I'm inviting you to play with that today.
So I'd like to share with you my four-step process for getting out of your head and into
your heart. First I invite you to come into your body fully. Notice your body. Connect
to your sensations. You can begin to connect with your breath. And just begin to notice
the beat of your heart. If you'd like, if it makes the connection easier bring your
hand to your heart space and allow it to rest there.
The second step is to invite your heart to connect with you at this time. And ask your
heart to show you what it has to give to you through sensation. So first ask your heart
to show you through sensation what a YES feels like. Next you can ask your heart to show
you what a NO feels like. For me, when my heart is saying YES, I receive this tingling
sensation. This openness. When I hear a NO, there's a sensation of a sinking in. It's
not as open and expanded. And this, you know, could definitely be different for you. Play
with it. Get familiar with your heart's YES and your heart's NO through sensation.
The third step is to bring to mind whatever it is you'd like to ask your heart for wisdom
on and request that you receive that information from your heart. So just bring to mind a particular
decision that's coming up for you or whatever it is you'd like clarity on and just bring
that into your heart space and ask your heart to share with you whatever it has for you
this time. You could phrase it in the form of a yes or no question , like "is this
the right decision for me to make at this time?" and then from the information that
you received before on what your heart says when it's a YES and what your heart says
is a NO you'll be able to get some clarity that way. Or you could just pose an open-ended
question to your heart asking your heart to reveal to you at this time whatever it has
to share with you. You could receive sensation. You could receive a visual or a mental image.
You could just all of the sudden know what the answer is. Everybody's different. Every
situation is different. Just allow yourself to play with it and just be in that space
of asking your heart to share with you whatever it is it has to share with you at the time.
And then the last step is to thank your heart. Thank your heart for taking this time for
sharing with you its wisdom and its guidance and trusting that what you've received today
is perfect for you. And ask your heart to continue to guide you as you step forward
on your journey.
That's my four-step process for getting out of your head and into your heart. I know
I've personally found it extremely valuable on my journey, and it's my sincere desire
to enrich and inspire your life with this tool and others so that you can live your
