CLYBURN: Broadband is a great equalizer.
No matter what the challenge, whether it is educational,
whether it's health care,
what have you - broadband is a great equalizer.
Another important fact is that most of the Fortune 500 companies only accept
applications online.
So it's important for
all of us to be not only literate
but be connected. So it's important for internet to be affordable
as well as accessible.

CLYBURN: It is
appropriate. It is ... in terms of the interaction of the training, [stammers] it is definitely
a model in which other communities, if they are not already doing so, should replicate.
What stood out to me is that you look,
you are looking at every single person
individually
and grouping persons accordingly
so that
like-tracked persons
are in the room with each other, helping each other, learning from each other
and having the opportunity to move at the appropriate pace.
I think it's important for community centers to recognize where people are
in order to connect with them better,
and in order to better serve them. I think this is a model of which
most places - all places - should follow, if they're not already doing so.

CLYBURN: I think it's important for us to listen
and get engaged with of all of the opportunities as well as all of the conversations
that we're having about
the internet.
There's some very significant decisions and very significant issues that are being put forth
in terms of how open the internet is,
we call it open internet proceedings about, you know, who is going to govern and
how much governance there should be. We're at a very significant crossroads as it
relates to
this information platform. So it is important for us to be engaged
because the future is now, so to speak,
and if we don't get, if we refuse, or if we are passive about getting this right
about having a structure that's accessible and affordable for all. We may not get a second
chance at this so it's important for us to be engaged.

CLYBURN: It's important for me to get outside of D.C. - to see exactly what the policies, what the
decisions we make - what it actually means for everyday people. That is why I am here
at this Center,
that is why I want to speak with those persons who are using your services -
to see how I can be a better official.
I don't know it unless I interact and get information from you, so I am
just pleased to be here, because
I have been educated and enhanced this week. This is my second time, um, this is my first time
being in this facility so I consider it my first real time here.
PERSON OFF-CAMERA: Thank you. CLYBURN: Thank you.
