Seven year old Danielle has no fear - whether its singing the national anthem in front of an audience
I'm like Robin Hood. Oh, yeah.
or trying a bow and arrow on for size.
I wanna be like Robin Hood.
This is a place where she can have a ball
and her wheelchair won't slow her down a bit.
Lets try again..alright!
This is a program that was established for people with disabilities to come out and enjoy the outdoors.
Moreover, it's designed to let people test their levels of independence.
Headed by the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Wild Turkey Federation and lots of volunteers,
a "Day at the Range" gives physically and mentally challenged folks who love the outdoors a chance to fish
Whoa, look!
shoot... OK Pammy. are you ready?
Pull... you did it!
Good job! Well done!
and flat-out have fun! Awesome! Pretty cool.
You want to kiss him?
Keep your cheek up right here. Keep it pulled tight up against your body.
There you go.
I did that? Wow, I'm a pro!
It's a lot of fun. Never shot a gun before and I'm having a blast.
I think it's fabulous for so many to be able to be here today.
Whether it takes some adaptive equipment or just the right guidance,
participants can concentrate on what they CAN do, not what they can't.
You can do things here that you normally wouldn't be able to do at the house.
There are people here to help you with it and everything.
Hold it up...up... oh, close!
We just need a little more elevation and we're there.
You know, it's very hard to get him out into the wilderness to do something
like this because most of it is not accessible
and this sure makes it easy.
It's something he's always wanted to do.
These folks are kind of restricted in day to day living.
For some of them, it's a real struggle just to make ends meet.
They live on limited budgets.
This is a day where all they have to provide is transportation just get here
and get home and we provide everything else for them.
Can you spot Danielle?
She's up there taking a ride in a lift that can be used as a tree stand for hunting.
Less than a year ago she sat very passively in her chair,
was not able to hold her head up,
didn’t have much use of her arms and her legs. And to see her out here interacting with these kids
and enjoying all of these activities is really, really wonderful.
I have a strong respect for those with disabilities who have to live with that day in and day out.
I realize were all very much susceptible to that.
At the blink of an eye, we could be there, too.
And I just hope that if that does happen,
someone’s there for me to give me the chance to do the things I enjoy
which are hunting and fishing so much.
Good job, well done!
Thanks! Good job!
