Forty-five years ago our Nation embarked on a vision to ensure that
minority-owned firms
throughout the country could become critical economic
agents of change and job creation. This vision led to the founding of the
Minority Business Development Agency,
the only federal agency focused on strengthening
the economic contribution
our Nation's five-point eight million
minority-owned firms. Today more than ever,
MBDA continues to play a vital role
in growing the U.S. economy and provide much needed jobs for Americans
of all backgrounds and cultures by ensuring that minority-owned firms
grow in size and scale. As we strive to strengthen the United States
global competitiveness, it is minority-owned firms
that are at the front lines of providing job creation
economic growth and wealth creation of communities throughout the United States.
I applaud MBDA on their 45th anniversary.
Established by executive order, MBDA has worked tirelessly
and diligently to promote the growth and global competitiveness
of the minority business community. And the results speak for themselves.
Over the last five years in particular
MBDA has assisted firms gain
access to over 19 billion dollars in contracts
and capital resulting in the creation and retention
of nearly sixty thousand jobs. And in the coming years
the growth of America's workforce will come
from the fast growing minority population.
So we need strong minority businesses
to achieve maximum economic growth.
MBDA has been instrumental in laying the foundation
that is giving rise to the fastest growing segment
of the business community. We celebrate the journey traveled
but more importantly MBDA is ready to set the course for the next forty five years
ahead. I'm certain MBDA will continue leading the effort
in achieving our full potential and creating the next generation
of minority-owned firms.
Happy 45th Anniversary MBDA
