Hi everybody. My name is Hylton Forrester from Hylton Chimneys.
We are here in a clients loft, and I'm wanting to do a quick video just to show you one of
the things what we do as well. Down here there is a person who recently bought
this property. And what he has found is in the loft area, in the bedroom below they have
taken out the chimney breast. But they have done this in a DIY fashion,
and its highly dangerous because the weight of this chimney is on a steel here and on
the roof rafters of the bedroom below. So if this gives way, the whole of this chimney
will come down into the actual bedroom itself. Now the council will condemn this as being
highly dangerous. If someone was to sell this property they would have issues in selling
it because of these factors. So we have come in to actually fit gallows
brackets, which are these. And these are bolted into the walls at each
side and then we put the concrete beam on top to make it safe.
We can also do a second method which is running a steel at the bottom from the spine wall
from this side in the center to the external wall, and that would totally support the chimney.
So what I am going to do is do a second video of the finish of this, and you can see the
difference between how we started it off and how we finished.
I am just trying to show you the actual ending of the work we have done previously. This
is the finish of the gallows brackets drilled into the wall and also the concrete lintel
support in the existing chimney. Before it was down onto this steel beam here
which was resting on the ceiling joists, which was very dangerous.
So the council will pass this. It's done very safely and to regulations.
So we have actually used 18 inch bolts to bolt into the wall as well and with some resin
behind them to hold it solidly. So, I truly believe this is done correctly
and the council will have no problems in our work here.
So once again, my name is Hylton Forrester from Hylton Chimneys.
