To receive online tutoring, you'll need to contact the Writing Center to schedule your
appointment.
Right now though, let's go through everything you need to know about logging in and collaborating
with an SCC tutor
from anywhere with an Internet connection.
You'll need to make sure you meet a few technical requirements to participate in online tutoring.
First, you must have a computer with access to the Internet, but connection speed is not
important.
Don't worry if you think your computer is too slow; if it can browse the Internet, it's
fast enough for tutoring.
You also need to establish an audio connection, and to do that you'll need a microphone and
speakers on your computer or a phone to call into the session.
The only other requirement is that you have an activated student e-mail account through
Google.
You can establish your e-mail account at my.maricopa.edu.
A few minutes before your pre-scheduled tutoring session
your tutor will send you an e-mail invitation to an online room where your session will
take place.
Click on the link included within this e-mail. The software should begin to download immediately.
Your computer may ask you if you want to run the application. Indicate that you do by clicking
run, allow, or yes.
Once the software has finished downloading enter your name and SCC e-mail in the field
provided, then click OK.
If you don't have a microphone and speakers on your computer, you may call into the session
using the phone number shown on the screen.
The required audio pin will be available here as well.
If you do have a mic and speakers, you'll be able to talk to your tutor as soon as you
select the mic and speakers option.
You can use the icons appearing next to your name to determine whether or not you're ready
to begin tutoring.
A grey icon lets you know that you're in the meeting but that you still need to establish
an audio connection,
while a green icon lets you know that you're connected and your tutor can hear you.
Your tutor will be waiting for you in this online space, and together you will find the
best way to share your document and begin tutoring.
And that's it! With just a few technical requirements and clicks of the mouse, you can participate
in tutoring from almost anywhere.
To schedule your online tutoring appointment, call us at 480-423-6416, or stop by LC379.
