I've been an international tax attorney my whole career,
and with the work I do, I was working for big firms,
and worked a lot.
I was away from my family and traveled a lot.
It was hard to balance life and work.
The biggest thing for me was being away from my family
and not feeling like I gave them as much as I could or should.
We decided to leave that kind of security
and start my own practice.
It's really valuable to have him around.
Our family has noticed a huge difference.
If he leaves for a meeting or isn't around for a game,
the kids just look at you like, "Where's Dad?"
Thank you.
My own family doesn't know how to find the place.
That's always a good sign.
School of Rock's a national franchise, a music program
for kids ages eight to senior in high school.
Every 3 to 4 months, we put on a rock 'n' roll concert
that all the kids perform in.
The set list includes songs by U2, the Police, the Who, etc.
I love it.
I'm definitely not a rocker.
I'm a groupie, and I don't love the same music Jason loves.
He teases me 'cause I was a Whitney Houston girl
in the '80s, and that's not where he was.
Rock 'n' roll isn't just learning the music;
it's performing the music.
So we really encourage kids to find their personality onstage
and really get up there and show that.
We have an eight-year-old in our school. Amang. He's Indian.
When he first started, his first concert with us,
he would just stand there and sing like most kids do.
This last concert, he gets up and sings "Bohemian Rhapsody."
I mean, he has no issues about putting on a show.
What I tell myself and the people who work for me is that our
only focus and goal is to give the kids who walk in
the best possible music and social experience.
The more I expose myself to music and differing thoughts,
the more my beliefs are strengthened, not weakened.
I like learning new things, meeting new people, cultures.
Part of it is, I like to be challenged.
I like it to reinforce how I'm living my life,
and it always does.
I'm more energized and focused in my career,
and I feel I'm a better husband and father now that I'm able
to go to kids' games and other important events.
It's a family endeavor.
I'm a boring tax attorney, and I literally rock.
All right, that's good.
I rock my wife's world, my kids' world, and I rock the tax world.
Our family rocks.
My name is Jason Slatter.
I'm a husband, a tax attorney, a rocker,
and I'm a Mormon.
