I'm heading to Matheran a beautiful hill station
situated 105 Kms from Mumbai being on higher altitude
the weather here is pleasant throughout the year
I have missed the Blue Mini Rail but
a fellow traveler's advice do not miss this train ride
and if possible experience it atleast one way.
Matheran was discovered by Hugh Poynitz Malet the
then district collector of Thane in May 1850
Lord Elphinstone the then Governer of Mumbai laid the foundation stone of its
developement as future hill station. Matheran has a total population of about 5000
Matheran is barely 8 sq km in area it has an
array of 38-points, the town also has large monkey population
you can prefer to enjoy this place by hitching a ride on horse
a hand-pulled cart as no private automobiles are allowed are allowed its a get away with nature
I'm going to Echo point this is the place for
adventure lovers as they may indulge in valley crossing
i am heading towards Khandala point
from here I can see the picturesque Khandala Hills
I move to calm and pristine Charlotte Lake where the lovely
breeze over the water soothes my soul wessel Lake Charlotte
is the main source of Matheran's drinking water
I will have to rush to the sunset point as the day nears the end
people gather here in numbers
to engrave this moment forever on their hearts
well Sun has gone and stars have started to show up on town's skyline
I shall take a long walk back
one may think that after long tiring day
one may retire to the confines of his bedroom
but unlike other hill stations Matheran
always seems to keep you up on your toes
here in front of me there is Kutbis which has a beautiful collection of designer clothes and accesories
hill station comes to life even in the night and people can be seen
hanging out till late at game parlors
the reason for me to come to Matheran is
this, to witness the rising Sun
this place has become favorite weekend destination
as people come here they enjoy some scenic beauty shop handmade footwears themselves
and indulge in fun activities. Walking back through these serene woods
to the railway station makes you wish to stay back
but like always duty calls I shall be back here soon
to discover something more and stay for a bit longer.
