What's better, over or under the pectoralis muscle, for a breast enlargement procedure?
Well, there's no absolute answer to this. Some surgeons only do over the muscle, some
surgeons only do under the muscles. At Aurora, we do approximately 50% in front, 50% behind.
The reason for this is, some people are best suited having the implant in front of the
muscle. Some people are best suited to have the implant behind the muscle. Now, this depends
on a number of factors, and we will take measurements of you when you come in to see us, and we
will recommend which way we recommend you going.
Essentially, normally if you have a significant amount of breast tissue which is over three
centimetres pinch width, so three centimetres of tissue coverage in the area halfway between
the top of your breast and your ***, we would normally recommend we go in front of
the muscle.
We normally recommend you go in front of the muscle if you have a tuberous breast or a
constricted breast, because we need to stretch that lower part of the breast tissue. If you
don't have three centimetres, if you're smaller busted, perhaps an A or AA, in many cases
we will recommend you go under the muscle. The reason for going under the muscle is that
you get an extra layer of coverage in the upper part of your breast, which can make
it slightly smoother, and can help just disguise and soften the appearance of the implant.
Overall, both under and over the muscles work really well. But the important thing is, that
you come in and see us. We will advise you as to whether we believe that over or in front
of the muscles will be best for you.
