I got into modeling when I was 19. I was walking with my friends
and we were at the mall in Pensacola, Florida.
This lady had approached me, and
she had Ferros Fashion and it's a big, giant
department store. And she said I would love to have you as commercial model.
(Photographer: Moving into the next outfit? Starr: Yup. Photographer: Alright, girl, let

Cause I was a I was curvy woman, you know, even in my teens. Being tall and curvy a lot
of people,
look at you like you're not good enough to be a model because you're not a size zero.
I'm a size 12 and 14 and, you know being 6'1, I try to represent for the tall and curvy
women in the world
(Photographer: These remind me of senior portraits almost. Starr: Well, I just want to get close-ups,
too)
When I go with a photographer
or there is some kind of special event
they are like wow, Tammie, you are really beautiful, but if you lost 50 pounds you know
you would get more work.
And I looked at them and I said, you know what? I'm not going to change. I'm not going
to starve myself.
So when I see all the skinny models,
I just say, I have the t-shirt that says "Feed the model"
because we are beautiful.
