A man in his 60s has made a pair of successful industrial deafness claims
against former employers following a career spent working in
noisy environments
the man who chose not to be named was employed in a plastics factory
in Hull between 1970 and 1974
with continual noise all week even during break periods in the canteen as
the machinery
could still be heard at those times. A second job as a tugboat
engineer between 1978 and1989
exposed the claimant to further industrial noise from
engines and generators but shouting being the only way of communicating with
colleagues
much of the time. There was also claim that neither employer provided sufficient
safety equipment to prevent the onset of noise-induced hearing loss,
while hearing tests and occupational health records
were conspicuous by their absence. If you've worked
in a loud environment you may be able to make an industrial deafness claim.
