As part of the Progress Pacific platform, Rollbase provides web-based rapid application
development tools that require little to no programming expertise.
You can integrate tables from SaaS applications into Rollbase applications using External
Objects. DataDirect Cloud simplifies access to cloud data. In this video I'll demonstrate
how to use DataDirect Cloud together with Rollbase. I already have a DataDirect Cloud
data source definition for my Salesforce.com application.
From within Rollbase, I open myCustom Appp. I want to access contact data from my Salesforce.com
application and have it appear as partner contacts. Note that all access through DataDirect
Cloud is read-only. First I need to create an external object
for the contact data. I can do this by clicking Create .
I select A new Object (with Tab) from External Metadata and click Create.
As the type that I want to import from, I choose DataDirect Cloud and click Next.
I enter my DataDirect Cloud access credentials and the name of the Data Source that I defined
previously in DataDirect Cloud. It's named DDC_SF. I click Next.
From the Select Table dropdown list, I select the table, in this case Contact.
I enter the Singular Name, Partner, and Rollbase automatically fills in the Plural, Record
Name, and Integration Name. These values are acceptable, so I'll leave them as is.
I enter a brief description of this object, which is optional, and allow Rollbase to create
a Tab for it within my application. I can establish the Permissions for this object
and once it is as required, I click Create Object.
Rollbase requires a primary key. This can be a field or combination of fields that form
a unique value. In this case, Rollbase automatically identifies the Primary Key, RowID, which is
correct. I then choose the field type, label, and integration
name for each of the Fields.I set the Email and Phone field type for the corresponding
fields. Once they are mapped correctly, I click Create
Fields. Rollbase builds the necessary SQL Query to
obtain the data, which I can modify if needed. I can preview the query to verify I'm mapping
the data correctly. Once it is as required, I click Save.
Rollbase creates the Partner object and displays it on a Tab. Now I can use my partner contact
data just like other application objects, except it is read-only.
Note that the Email and Phone fields are formatted properly, based on the field types set.
I can also Edit the Object or View as needed. This completes our look at how to use DataDirect
Cloud together with Rollbase to provide read-only access to external data.
