It's this interplay between tension and relaxation,
between tough competition and aloha feeling.
The typical "hang loose" sign
comes natural to Hawaiians.
It's like, slow down now!
But in a competition we have to do the opposite.
It's like, speed it up!
But this interplay is interesting.
It works out really well on the island, that's why I always come back here.
I am a real fan of this race.
Sure, you can adjust and change things,
but you have to pursue a strategy
from the beginning to the end. The last five years have proven...
that this serves me well.
The absolute highlight in training for Ironman Hawaii
was Lanzarote.
In those three weeks I had the opportunity
to test Effektor Line, the new clothing line,
and optimise the products for Hawaii.
The atmosphere at the pier, at the swim-start and the finishing line
is really special to the Ironman and unique worldwide.
There are more and more people, the atmosphere gets better and better,
but I have to concentrate on competing,
have to retire and focus myself
so that I have enough strength on the day of the race.
Races aren't won in the good moments, they are won in the bad moments.
