Welcome to the Westbank Community Library's tutorial series. In this video, we will explore
the Overdrive website. Overdrive is the resource you can use to download digital eBooks and
audiobooks. The process will be different depending on whether you are using a home
computer or a mobile device. This tutorial will show you how to access the digital library
using a home computer. Let's begin from the main website, westbanklibrary.com. From the
home page, click the login link at the top and sign in using your library card number
and phone number, including area code. Once you're logged in, click the Download Audiobooks
Ebooks link here. We are now on the Overdrive website. The main
page will show you the latest material added to the collection as well as music, videos,
and a most downloaded area. The top green section has several categories for browsing,
separated by fiction, non-fiction, and type of format. If you have a specific title or
author in mind, you can use the search bar near the top. Advanced search will also help
you narrow down your results. For example, if you wanted to see which titles were available
to download right at this moment, select the 'show only titles with copies available' option
here. Let's search for a book. Westbank Library
shares many of these ebooks with the Central Texas Digital Consortium. However, Westbank
is also a member of Overdrive Advantage, meaning that anytime you see this A symbol, the book
is only available to Westbank Library members. You can also quickly see from this page which
items are ebooks or audiobooks, as well as if which are available (if they are darkened)
or unavailable (if they are light). If the book is available, you will see a Borrow button.
Click this to follow through on a two week checkout. For ebooks, Overdrive has a built
in reader that will allow you to start reading the book right away. For audiobooks, you will
need to download Overdrive Media Console. You can find this in the Help area under Software.
If you are using a Mac computer, be aware you can only download audiobooks in MP3 format.
Most of the time, you will be able to return a book early. To do so, simply click this
link. If the book is not currently available, you can Place a Hold. This means that you
will receive an email once the book is available. When you receive this email, you will then
have three days to log into the Overdrive website and borrow the book.
At any time, you can select your Account to see the current status the books you have
checked out or are waiting for. This is also where you will see your checkout limit. Currently,
each library card can check out 5 items. Audiobooks and ebooks can be checked out for two weeks
at a time. Renewals depend on whether or not there is a waiting list and if the publisher
has allowed for renewals. If you want to see how to download an ebook
to a mobile device, please see one of our other tutorial videos for that specific device.
Thank you for watching.
