>>Erik: What have Rotarians taught you about taking a selfless approach to service?
>>Michael: Rotary International is a fantastic organization. It is a selfless approach to
service but it’s an idea that you don’t need to give up everything – you build it
into your life. So, Rotary is an organization of professionals from around the world, I
think it’s 1.2 million members in, I want to say 150 countries. And they all have jobs.
They are all professionals, but they are dedicated to improving their community and to improving
the world. So, that’s what has been great about Kilifi Kids is that we have, up to this
point, built it around Rotary. Rotary was the original funding source, that’s our
organizational genesis. It’s the idea of, “We had jobs, we had jobs out making our
careers, and yet we can still do Kilifi Kids, we could still be helping all of these kids
in Kenya and we could still be building all of these relationships.” And that’s through
Rotary. And so, Rotary – the motto is “Service Above Self”. And they really live that,
but they do it in a way that you can just build it into your life, make it sustainable
and make it really a part of your life.
