Today we're going to talk about when to get started on your college application essays
recently, a lot of
seniors and their families have been coming to me and asking if they should start their essays now
or should I wait until I have this "cool" experience
I'm going to have this summer...
I say the earlier, the better for your essays. Because, you are probably going to go through
a few drafts...it is advisable to...
it's nice to have your applications done, excuse me,
your essays done before the summer because
once your senior year starts, it is probably going to be more difficult.
you might have some SAT or ACT tests you may want to take in the fall.
Getting those essays done is probably the
the largest amount of time you will spend on any part of your college application.
Having those done over the summer will really benefit you.
I in Austin Texas and the Apply Texas essays came out in March.
and...
the Common Application essay prompts came out in March as well
so, look at those now
right now it is June and a lot of the applications these days
come out in June, July or August, so if you can get the essays done right now,
it is always going to benefit you.
now a lot of people say
well I don't know how to get started or what am I supposed to write about?
Look at the prompts now, it is another reason to get started early,
Look at the prompts, sometimes you have to choose one out of five
as on the Common App, and with the Apply Texas essays,
you need to choose the right, depending on the schools you apply to
some will write all three essays, there is essay "A," essay "B," and essay "C"
so start looking at those essays
if you are definitely applying to some of those Texas schools, and you have those three essays,
start those first, and it is likely that one of those essays you write
will overlap with one of the essays on the Common App.
The UC Prompts, I haven't heard back yet,
so I don't know if they are going to change for the 2013/2014 application,
and just keep checking that website or call
and see if those essay prompts are going to
change from last year.
