Until about a week ago my Google experiences was generally very positive. I actively use
YouTube, I actively use Google documents, as in word processor, spreadsheet, calendar
functions and that sort of thing. I even have used Google Plus. Chrome was my principle
browser. I just found everything within this Google empire integrated really well together.
However since this forcing of Google+ onto YouTube users its all gone wrong for me. Chrome
has worked reliably in the past including for posting YouTube comments, but as of a
couple of days ago it stopped doing this regardless as to whether the person was or wasn't already
in one of my Google+ circles. I have not changed any settings or anything like that, chrome
has just stopped doing comments. Switched back across to Firefox and that worked a treat.
So now my YouTube browsing is done through Firefox, and if I'm going to use Firefox for
this then I'm going to switch across and use it for all my browsing again. Also over the
last few days as I've been posting comments up I've been adding YouTube people to my Google+
circles. However earlier on this morning I started to methodically work through my YouTube
subscription list adding people to my circles. It said that some people who I know I had
added earlier on and even seen in my circles a couple of hours previously had not yet been
added. So I'm not sure what's going on but the Google system does seems very broken at
the moment. What this has done for me is to disrupt my previously what shall we call it
self-contained or integrated Gru ah Google experience and it has made me start to look
elsewhere for my services. So I've had a look around Yahoo, but though they may be good
for mail and calendar features their word processing and spreadsheet functionality is
poor. That in turn then got me off looking to Microsoft's SkyDrive which with its integration
with the latest version of Office plus various Office web apps means I can easily gain access
to my documents from both mobile and desktop devices almost everywhere. One of the main
reasons I moved across to using Google Docs was because it was not Microsoft, not that
Big Brother type organisation trying to control you, but it looks like Google has now become
that very same sort of corporation. It's a shame. Office via SkyDrive is not as smooth
in its performance as Google Docs, but it's more than satisfactory for my uses so I'm
going to give it a try for a while, see how it goes. So there you go Google, your supposed
improvements means that I'm no longer using so many of your products and services. What
a great own-goal by them. O.k., enough, goodbye.
