Dillon – Why join Commercial Services I decided to join commercial services coming
out of a background in international development. I have been a peace corps volunteer, worked
for USAID and when I was thinking of a career in the foreign service, I realized that the
commercial service is the one branch that really offers the opportunity to engage not
just specific policy work but also in project work. And when I mean project work, it means
work that has discrete end dates and where you can see the end results and feel the satisfaction
of seeing something through from beginning to end. We certainly engaged in policy in
the commercial services but beyond the policy work is the business consultancy work that
I think gives you the sense of professional reward at the end of the day.
