Okay, yeah, everything should be plain by looking at Moodle
and you should realize that you have to make it through these three books from
cover to cover by the end of the semester. And it's not really lively--well, actually,
the third book is kind of light reading. It's fun, it's a great book. Yeah, that some
of the stuff hasn't been updated from spring. A couple of times I've gone to work
on Moodle and it's crashed. It's kind of a new project on campus, although, we've had
Moodle around for about a year. This is the first time that it has been our only learning
management system, so there's still a few bugs. And so, I will update everything,
but if you look at the first page or the first form and if you look at the bulletin boards
those are all current. Okay, any other questions?
Well, okay, Jane, good question. You are pretty much reading at your own pace, but there will
be a quiz on the Sacred Quest and I will post that and then, you'll have
kind of a deadline because it won't be open forever. So, I'll give you like a week
to two weeks turnaround that I expect you to be done with the Sacred Quest and then
on to Ten Theories of Human Nature. Actually, the first thing you'll see is the Methods
and Madness, that's something you should probably read before you read the Sacred Quest.
By all means, open it up and start reading it because they are very complimentary to
one another, but that I have about 20 pages of material of my own that I put up in the
Methods and Madness and you can actually click on that. That's a live now and you can
start reading that and go through that material and I have a quiz that's based on that. After
that will be the quiz on the Sacred Quest, then there'll be some--I'll have some
assignments based on the Ten Theories of Human Nature. And then there'll be some
assignments and some postings due on The Curious Incident of the Dog. So, but if you stay attuned
to the bulletin boards, everything should be very clear where you
should be. The Methods and Madness was posted on the--it's got a little icon with three
wings on it, but if you scroll down the Moodle homepage, it's already there, okay. The flashcard
section is for the Sacred Quest and some of vocabulary. Although, it hasn't
been working well, so I have to work with the tech support to see what's wrong with
the flashcards. It comes up sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. So, like I said, Moodle
is almost an experimental learning management system. Yes Francesca [assumed spelling], your question,
basically read stuff for comprehension, but then I have put
the flashcards there in the practice quiz. I oftentimes will let people take quizzes
the second time if they do really bad. I prefer for you to prepare along with study
guidelines that I gave you. So, the flashcards are really very important for the Sacred
Quest and like I will check back with you probably on the third week to see how that's
going for you guys. There will be a bulletin board for the Sacred Quest as well
just to see what you're thinking about it, et cetera. How do I grade online
participation? That's a good question. I basically, it's kind of a very subject thing whether
I like you or not--just kidding. It's kind of like if you put a lot into it.
It's kind of one of those check-minus, check, check-plus type of things. So basically,
just doing it, you know, just jumping through the hoop counts and so it's really--if you
impress me with a lot of your really good thought, as I know you all will, then that
is a great decisive factor if you're somewhere in between grades. I just expect everybody
to do it. And so, that's why it counts for 40% of your grade. Online participation is
just a given in this class. It's like--that substitutes for attending class lectures by
participating online, you are basically doing your participation. And as you know, you
have to--you kind of have to post in order to become visible in this class because we
don't ever see each other except like in this context. So anyways, hey, how are things going?
What do you think? I've cleared the checks? You guys all clear on stuff? You know,
research paper question, good question. I'll get back to that later on, but it's about
five pages, so it's a short paper and in L.A., Chicago styles, season's style, I don't care,
whatever discipline you're in that whatever you're comfortable with I can accept any
intelligible format. So, if you want to--it is a research paper, so you have to document
your sources and you have to use references, but however, you want to use, cite those references,
whether it's in parentheses, footnotes, in notes, I'll accept that. Okay,
you'll turn in your research paper, to turn it in. I will open that up. It's due towards
the end of the semester like the last week of classes. Yeah, I'll have to put up
the archives. You don't need to log in to Elluminate--well, actually we'll be logging
in to Elluminate, but it will be in archive link. I already had for the--this first week,
I had all the archives up there and I'll be putting the new archives up. Actually,
some students want to have access to the old archives because I always address things in
a different manner, so redundancy is one major
key to education. Okay. Yes, you get more info. I will not leave you in the dark and
I'm very good at answering emails and yeah, the
reason why Pierre, you couldn't log in to turn in because that was locked over from
last semester. That may turn into an invisible,
not to be a temptation or stumbling block to you.
Yeah okay Jessica, basically, probably the Sacred Quest quiz will be about a month from
now. Maybe three to four weeks from now. I'll make it available and then, it's kind of one
of those self-paced things that when I make that quiz available, that you'll have a
week--we can have turnaround. I'm very flexible with those kinds of things. So, I mean, I
don't want you to feel like there are no deadlines because there are deadlines, so
to speak, but hopefully by taking an online course, you are volunteering that you are
a self starter and self motivated and that you
had the requisite discipline to get these things done. If you don't, I will chat you
and I will guide you. Okay, well, basically, it seems like the questions are kind of dying
down and I want to keep it within my promise of only going, you know, about half
an hour. And so, next week's session will be same time, same place, and what to do in
the meantime is look at the bulletin boards. I may actually open up all the bulletin boards
if I get charged up next week. We're just moving into week two and I already have
a couple of things that I open up yesterday. The environmental scan, that's something
that you need to look at and think about, then the Methods and Madness--boy, that's
going to be an eye opener for you. And so, that's
what you should do in the meantime and then email me if you have any questions. And so
thank you Cynthia [assumed spelling], this program
is kind of really cool and anyways, good luck everybody and adios amigos y amigas.
