Hey! Welcome to the third installment of Happip's Bestiary
This time, five new creatures add up to the previous ten I drew...
Starting with this steampunk cat, with a ghost on its tail!
Details like the ghost on the tail, the steampunk theme and the shark dorsal fin...
Were chosen among loads and loads of cat related suggestions...
I could say this is like... Your average cat suggestion...
...Instead of drawing lots of cats, I tried to condense it all here.
Oh, before anyone asks about it... (There's always someone asking this question)
(I always answer the same thing in all my videos)
I start my drawings in Paint Tool Sai, then I touch up the colors and add textures in Photoshop.
There's plenty of color correction options in Photoshop.
What I like about Paint Tool Sai is how the line art ends up, that's why I start my work there.
Sometimes I draw a rough sketch in paper before drawing here, but not necessarily.
As you can see, there are two main light sources, there's a warm one on its back and the cold one belongs to the glowing ghost.
The next creature is an "exquisite corpse" done with the help of my Twitter followers!
One night I said: Let's create the next monster together!
So each one could contribute with an element for this creature.
Lots of people contributed in this with their ideas...
An eye in the belly, zippers...
Tentacles on its armpits, purple hair extensions...
Red bangs, a horn, manga eyes...
Bifid tongue, septum piercing, spider legs with roots...
Lots of stuff. I had to stop because there was a lot going on already and to not make it look too ugly.
The drawing style here reminds a lot of Pokémon and Digimon...
With flat colors and all... I know you always say they look like Pokemon...
But it's really clear with the flat coloring.
The clean lines and colors remind of those videogames and anime sagas.
It was fun. If there is another bestiary, I'll probably make one like this again...
That will be done at any moment in Twitter, so stay tuned!
So another funky creature will be featured. As you can see, I included a keychain on the keyblade...
My channel's orange!
So here it is...
The next creature is a Whale Jellyfish!
I got many interesting requests concerning whales...
But the most interesting one for me was a mix with jellyfish. Not that I like them...
But jellyfish are very interesting visually speaking.
So I started this the whale jellyfish...
Later on I regretted that when cleaning up the lines, its sponge-like body and tentacles took their time...
Filling it all with color is one of my silent pains when drawing...
Not coloring out of the line, just like when you're a child... The only difference is that here it's five times worse.
Oh, one more thing. I never said I was going to do a Bestiary video once every week...
That's the rythm I've been trying to follow...
But I wouldn't put my hands on fire because they take a lot of time...
I do this for pleasure... So don't expect one each week
My health could be involved in that, too... (laughs)
So I'll try to do more when I have the time.
I also have to spend my time working to earn some money!
I added planetary rings to the tentacles, to give this some spatial ambiance...
The next creature is a Castle Turtle!
The moment Sulfon suggested it I got inspired!
It's like one of the things you read and *pop* here comes the inspiration!
I've already seen turtles with architecture going on their shells in videogames...
For example, in Tales of Legendia there were two type of turtles: some had a house on them
you could tell they had the laundry hanging too...
Others had a turret on them
I got carried away with this one...
I added more architecture to the turtle's body itself
The legs are downward towers... Or something like that!
The city - castle - citadel thing on the shell is like a rainbow, with all the hues going on
I added some lights here and there...
If I had more time I would put even more time into it, it definately asked for it!
I think this was the most inspiring suggestion of them all
Sometimes I'm doubting if an idea will work, but once I'm at it, it turns out to be working pretty well...
With this one I knew I was going to like the final results (but that's just my opinion)
I don't know yours, though...
As you can see, there's no line art for this one, once I was done with the rough sketch I erased them to make it look a bit different
It's just a matter of styles...
You usually ask for the brushes I use
The ones I'm currently using (in Sai) are the default ones, with some parameters modified
As for Photoshop brushes, I download free to use ones.
I changed the castle - city's colors until I'm happy with them, I add some textures and here it is
The next creature is a faun, suggested by Fateuser
He also asked me to put his symbol on the faun's chest
(I added a star in the beginning, then I added his real logo in the final version of this drawing)
I mixed it up a bit with the Minotaur's design
It is a little more bulky than your regular faun, just to try something different.
I tried to use thinner lines than usual for this one
I also added mushrooms on its shoulder, to show how it cares for nature
So there's a piece of it really close
I also added a pan flute
I had troubles with its legs and muscles, anathomy isn't my strong point...
I tried to correct some stuff on the go and do my best
Some of you say I'm always using purple or blue shades everytime
I went for earthy tones with this one, red and green. More natural ones.
(I like to use all the colors without discrimination)
I added a hard green light source in one side
After adding the textures everything gets a more country-like ambiance
Little touches of green add an eerie atmosphere to the mushrooms part.
With this faun, this batch is complete! See you soon in the next bestiary video!
I hope you liked it, see you!
Bye!
