so i thought it was uh... yesterday
uh... it was reported that a u_s_ army sergeant
killed at least sixteen civilians
nine of whom were children
in a part of uh... southern afghanistan the story
there are there are conflicting reports as to how many people are involved in
this
the official story is that this one army sergeant who was part of a uh...
specific unit
which uh...
functioned to
organize local police units in track down taliban
in the uh... southern part of afghanistan
left his base in the middle of the night
i guess traveled a mile
and then start banging on doors in a local village in just shooting up people
and then grab them
uh... once they were dead and attempted to burn a bunch of them
talking about nine of the children and four of them uh... girls younger than
six
he and has been uh... deployed to afganistan iraq at least at one other
time in the past as there's obviously
and mixed information
there are reports that multiple witnesses
though not the preponderance of witnesses at least according to the new
york times in the a_p_
said that they sell out
other
soldiers
now it's unclear whether not they saw other soldiers who came in after the
fact
uh... or during it but
it does seem uh...
search trash the imagination slightly
that this guy was able to uh... lease duke
kill people and then attempt to work gather them together
to burn them
uh... it's unclear
but one of the most disturbing things that
struck me in reading this story
because we're going to hear
how this loan uh... gunmen was crazy how he uh... lost control of himself
how this is not indicative of anything
new york times reports the killings came two days after an episode in the cap
he's a province
in the eastern afghanistan and which nato helicopters apparently hunting
taliban insurgents
fired on civilians killing foreign wounding another three
this is gone going in afghanistan
and the idea that it's one lone gunmen who did this
one uh...
soldier who went crazy with did this
is the problem is completely understating and under selling what the
problem is
the promise that we are constantly
on a weekly if not daily basis
killing civilians in this country
and nobody can really explained
why
what it is that we're supposed to be doing there
you know we have that moment where the country could uh... rejoice those who
wanted to uh... in the killing of osama bin laden well where's the dividends for
that
if we're going to uh...
it's bad enough that we have to reduce uh... this country um...
in terms of its moral stature
from uh... where was when he could actually tried
crimes against humanity
to now where we just simply assassinate people
door targeted killing actions
uh... but why couldn't we use that event as a
reason to get out of a quagmire where all we seem to be doing
is uh...
treading water at the expense of innocence about it
it's really just a horrible horrible shame
and uh...
hopefully we will get an excellent repair
sooner rather than later
you know for those who suggest that there is
a uh...
presidential candidate
who is going to be more apt to get out of afghanistan uh... an active candidate
is uh... mit romney i would tend to disagree
we just
in this country don't have
popular designer
that is manifested anyways
to stop killing civilians
that's just the reality
