Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
This is National Work Zone Safety Week and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reminds
motorists to be cautious and patient when driving through highway work zones.
Driving through these areas may seem inconvenient and rough road surfaces and possible traffic
delays can be frustrating.
Still, construction and maintenance crews are engaged in potentially dangerous work
that will make travel quicker and safer for everyone over the long haul.
In America, more than 40,000 people are injured and hundreds are killed each year in work
zones. Eighty-five percent of those killed are motorists.
Over the past three years in Kentucky, 16 people have died and 285 people have been
injured in work zones.
