In preparing to commemorate World Youth Day on 12 August,
this Wednesday, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports
held activities like blood donations.
The theme promoted by the Secretary of State
on this day was "Youth Against Poverty and Ignorance".
Participants who helped give blood, other than public servants of the
Secretary of State for Youth and Sports also included members of the Defence Force.
Nino Pereira, chief of staff for the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports said that,
these activities could encourage youth to take part in the development of Timor-Leste.
However, according to Nino Pereira, activities like giving one drop of blood
could save another person's life.
In addition, the head of the blood bank, Tomas Adelino, said that their mission was
see the people giving blood donations, as the blood needed by patients,
had to be good blood.
However, Defence Force Infantry Liaison Officer, David do Santos,
who also gave blood, said that he felt happy with this activity,
because this was a form of moral support.
According to David dos Santos, giving one drop of blood
could save someone else's life.
The activities that the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports held
to commemorate International Youth Day were a photography competition, blood giving,
youth dialogue, and others.
