Proper use of heading tags makes it easier for visitors who rely on screen readers to navigate web page content.
Headings should be organized according to the content presented.
Headings should be order consecutively. H1 before H2, H2 before H3 etc.
Every page should use at least one H1 heading.
One way to see how headings are being used is by viewing a web page as an outline.
Let’s begin with the Firefox web browser already open.
We’re going to open up a sample data file. Begin by clicking File.
Then click Open File.
Then click the Desktop icon.
Double-click the WebAuthoB folder.
Click the file bad_page_pass.
Then click the Open button.
On the Web Developer toolbar, click the Information button.
Then click on View Document Outline.
A new tab opens displaying the web page in outline view with only the headings displayed. No graphics or pictures etc.
Confirm that the page has at least one H1 heading.
All other headings should advance in logical order, H2 before H3 etc. Heading should not jump from H2 to H5.
Any out of order heading should be rearranged into the correct order.
The web page file should be saved and then uploaded to the server.
